Orchestra(1993) I-IV(1993)

InstrumentationIntended for Medium sized Classical orchestra (winds in pairs, 2Hns, 2Trpts, 3Trbns, Perc, Harp, Piano, Strings). It can be orchestrated to meet the requirements of specific ensembles. A prominent solo violin part exists in II.
Length19 mins.
DifficultyModerately difficult. Simultaneous tempi and meters in Movements II and IV.
CommentsSomething for everyone. Extreme contrasts in style between the 4 movements. I is made of simple tonal part writing, very short and direct. II is extremely abstract, composed of disparate fragments; a collage with a prominent solo violin part. III is an American scherzo movement; motoric rythmns, syncopations. IV begins as a lyrical variation of III and evolves into a combination of the collage-like approach of II with reminiscences of I. A rather enigmatic coda follows.
