Instrumentation | Clarinet, Bassoon, and Horn soloists. Full string orchestra. The piece can be played with a very small but balanced orchestra or a much larger one. The wind parts should always be performed as solos. |
Length | 6 min |
Difficulty | Medium to difficult. |
Comments | The piece is in alternating slow and fast passages in a octatonic mode. The opening is rather somber but the uptempo sections are brighter. The piece is somewhat improvisatory in character (like an organ fantasia). It requires three excellent wind soloists and good strings. |

Instrumentation | Full or school orchestra. It can be performed by a chamber sized group or larger. |
Length | 5 min |
Difficulty | easy-medium. A very competent marimba/xylophone player is needed. |
Comments | This set is three short renniassance pieces adapted for orchestra. The three (in order of performance) are I. "Ah Robin, Gentle Robin" (William Cornyshe) II. "Sanctus and Benedictus" from "Missa Secunda" (Hans Leo Hassler) III. "The King of Denmark's Galliard" (John Dowland) The two outer pieces combine the rennaissance music with rather modern percussion writing that younger students enjoy greatly. The inner piece is beautiful rennaissance counterpoint that sets against the two outer pieces quite well. |
