CommentsThis piece was written as a tribute for the firefighters for the September 11 anniversary. It is in the style of a funeral march, but projects pride and hope. It would also be suitable for Memorial Day, a concert for heroes, or Flag Day. If using a choir, you need at least 32 voices SATB, but can be performed with just orchestra.

From program notes: "Reading of the Names 9/11: The Firefighters" captures the raw complexity of a sinful act against extraordinary courage. It is a painting of unbearable grief and continued hope, strength, and determination, reminding us that in the ashes of death and sorrow we exhumed a united humanity." (D. Carroll)
